How it works

From AIS firehose to a live port page.

STEP 01

AIS firehose

Every vessel over 300 GT continuously broadcasts its position, heading, and speed via VHF radio. Coastal AIS stations and satellite receivers feed those signals into our ingestion pipeline โ€” tens of millions of position reports per day.

STEP 02

Port radius lookup

Each port has a geo-indexed polygon (default ~10 km radius around the published terminal coordinates). Whenever a vessel report lands inside the polygon, we tag it as "at port" and classify it as berthed, at anchor, or inbound.

STEP 03

Live page

Each port page is server-rendered for snappy loads, then upgrades to a WebSocket connection that streams new vessel positions as they arrive. Subscribe to webhooks if you'd rather get notified on arrivals than poll.

All ports

32 deep-water ports. 23 countries.

Grouped by region for easier browsing. Each entry links through to a live page with vessel positions, anchorage queue, and historical movement.
